To know your enemy is your first step toward victory - and that is what we want to do - Defeat the scourge of Acne. Let's begin with the causes of Acne: The popular beliefs such as - If you eat French Fries and / or chocolate - you will get acne - or aggravate it if you already have it - - - Aren't true! It is true that each of our bodies is different from others - and it is possible that your particular body chemistry does indeed act differently with some foods than others do - but generally - diet doesn't cause Acne. If we rule out diet - than, what? Well, when you see your first blemish - it usually is the result of 2-3 weeks in progress. It started in your sebaceous hair follicles. Those are the tiny holes we know as pores. You see, our glands produce a substance known as Sebum. That is the oil that keeps our skin moist. It is necessary - but, when you are a teenager, often too much of that oil is produced. Actually, although this condition is thought to be the exclusive domain of teenagers - it can afflict any age. It just is much more common in teenagers - because at that age - Sebum is produced in larger quantities than needed - quite often. We can go in much more detail - but for most of us - we want to know 'what it is - basically', and then - - -- What can we do about it! After all, clear skin is what we all want, and acne scarring is always uppermost in our minds. Do acne treatments really work - since there is really no absolute cure for Acne? The fact is - there are some excellent products that are not only proven - but guaranteed. And, there are ways to minimize the impact of Acne: • Over-washing does not help. - - -- - Over-washing may even stimulate extra oil production that could make it worse. • Avoid harsh scrubs - - - - They can irritate your skin further • Don't Drink -- - - - - Alcohol is an astringent which can strip off the top layer of your skin. You know what that tells your body to do? Produce more oil - which caused the problem in the first place. • Don't squeeze or pick at the sores - - -That can force bacteria deeper into the skin - which can cause greater inflammation and infection. • Don't Even Touch - - - That can drive the bacteria into your pores - where it gets really nasty • When you exercise - - Shower off and use an acne fighting cleanser right after exercising. The bottom line is that the great majority of teenagers - and many adults are affected with Acne, and although Dermatology is often necessary, there are things you can so - such as the above. A very severe case may well require the services of a Dermatologist - but don't overlook the fact that there are several remedies on the market which may well help you. The main thing is - Don't let Acne Rule Your Life. Take common sense attitudes, explore proven treatments - and get on with the happiness in your life.
