Deep Bleaching - Extreme Teeth Whitening

By: Gen Wright Home | Health-and-Fitness

Your smile is one of the first features someone notices when they first meet you. If your smile is less than what you desire, you may be too self-conscious to smile. Whiter, brighter teeth can help make your smile stand out and make you look years younger. With deep bleaching, there are no limits to a dazzling smile, making it possible for your smile to brighten up to 12 shades lighter in just one week.

Whiten In-Office and At-Home with Deep Bleaching

Before your first deep bleaching treatments, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth in order to create your at-home bleaching trays. The first session of deep bleaching will begin in your dentist's office, which will condition the teeth in order to absorb oxygen more easily from the bleaching gel in your at-home bleaching trays. After your first conditioning visit, do not expect a major color change, you will notice a gradual whiter smile in the following hours and days.

Bleaching with at-home trays is accomplished by wearing bleaching trays with bleaching gel. The trays are custom made by your dentist from a mold of your teeth and are made of thin, clear, flexible vinyl. Most patients find these trays to be very comfortable to wear during the day and to sleep with at night time because they are custom molded to specifically fit your teeth. After approximately one week of convenient at-home bleaching, you will have your final in-office whitening session. Following your final session, your dentist will apply a clear, glossy protective coating to your teeth.

A Look at Tooth Discoloration

Tooth discoloration falls under two different categories: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic discoloration occurs in the outer layer of the tooth, called the enamel, and the stains can range from white streaks to yellow tints or even brown spots and pits. Intrinsic discoloration occurs in the inner structure of the tooth, called the dentin, in which the dentin darkens or displays a yellow tint to the tooth.

Some of the causes of tooth discoloration include, but are not limited to:

Certain foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, soda, wines, potatoes, cherries and blueberries.
Tobacco use
Poor dental hygiene such as inadequate brushing and flossing
Diseases affecting enamel and dentin
Medications
Aging
Trauma, such as a fall or any other injury that might damage the nerves or chips/cracks the teeth

Teeth whitening results are subjective, varying considerably from person to person. Before beginning your whitening process, consult your cosmetic dentist in Pasadena for a realistic idea of the results you are likely to achieve and how long it should take to achieve them. Your expectations play a significant role in the teeth whitening process.

If you have stained and discolored teeth and want your smile to shine brighter it can be. Contact your dentist in Pasadena to see if the deep bleaching technique is right for you. You will not be disappointed with the results.
