How To Make Money On Ebay - Selling Internationally

By: suzannewells Home | Internet-and-Business | Auctions

Selling your items internationally is not as hard as you might think; it just takes some preparation and a little research. When you offer your products to worldwide customers, you expose yourself to millions more shoppers and buyers. Even if international customers don’t win your item, their bids will help drive the price higher. According to the eBay 2006 Annual Shareholder's Report, 49% of ebay coach blog users are outside of the US. That means, almost half of the 221 million registered eBay users are international. If you aren't offering international shipping, you might want to reconsider.
eBay and Paypal do all the translating and currency conversions for you. In the event that you are having trouble communicating with your customer, a look up some free on-line translation services for working with international customers. Just type in what you want to say in English, and select the language that you would like your email translated into. Bear in mind that you will receive an exact translation that may not account for slang, dialect, or expressions. At least you’ll be trying to communicate better with your customer and he will appreciate your efforts.
International customers love American products. In some cases, money is not the issue, supply is the issue. In some Eastern block countries, products are scarce but consumers have money to spend, so they come to ebay coach blog. Ironically, international customers will often buy products make in their homeland (such as fine Italian goods), but it is less expensive for them to purchase the item on eBay because the taxes are so high in their own country. International selling is a win-win situation: you make money on the sale, the buyer is able to purchase an item he can't otherwise find or afford.
International shipping is not hard or complicated. It just requires a different procedure. You'll prepare your package just the same, except you won't be able to use free priority mail supplies. You can get very reasonably priced poly mailers on ebay coach blogthrough a store called Valuemailers. You can also get free boxes from your local grocery store or liquor store. You can use global mail supplies from the post office, but I have found that shipping Air Mail Letter Post is much cheaper and just as efficient.
Once your package is prepared, all you need is a customs form. They are available at the post office. If you aren't sure what to do, just ask a clerk. They are always glad to help. Filling out the customs form only takes a minute, and then you are on your way. Some of my best customers are international. You'll have an edge over the competition because a large percentage of sellers don't offer international shipping. Even if the international customer doesn't win the auction, they will help drive the price up because you have added more users to your bidding pool.
Remember that many American families live overseas and may have difficulty finding their much-loved American products in a foreign country. They often turn to eBay.
