When it was first released, its price ranged from US$499 to US$599. A very expensive price for a video game console. Many people, especially in the Philippines, reacted on this price, which later was the said to be the down fall of the console. This downfall also caused developers to shift their focus on other brands such as the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii. To reduce the cost of the system, its founders have decided to remove unimportant features of the console which also decreased its price range. Since the system's launch, production costs have been reduced significantly as a result of phasing out the Emotion Engine chip and falling hardware costs.
