Xbox 360 Vs. Nintendo Wii Vs. Playstation 3

By: Archie Lopez Home | Shopping-and-Products

There are 3 different brands of video game consoles today that people around the world are choosing from right now. These are the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. These brands are part of the seventh generation of video game consoles that are currently competing to get the largest market in the world. The question that many are currently asking today is which one of these are the best? Filipinos are among those that really wanted to know which one of these are the best, especially because of its price, these thing doesn't come cheap.

Comparison

Each of these video game consoles have their advantages and disadvantages. According to seeral Electronics Philippines enthusiasts that made reviews on these consoles, many of them have stated that the Xbox 360 is their best bet.

Xbox 360
Xbox 360 is known to be cheaper than Nintendo Wii and especially PS3. This is because Xbox 360 was first released, which was released in 2005, than Nintendo Wii and PS3. The good thing about Xbox 360 is that the games are as good and as varied as was with PS2 back in the earlier years. But what's good about the console is that some games, and especially developers, have come to make several games on Xbox which was supposed to be only for PlayStation such as the popular Final Fantasy franchise. There are, however, several issues about the system. The Xbox 360 is subject to a number of technical problems. Since the console's release in 2005, users have reported concerns over its reliability and failure rate.

To aid customers with defective consoles, Microsoft has extended the Xbox 360's manufacturer's warranty to three years for hardware failure problems that generate a "General Hardware Failure" error report. According to Electronics Philippines reviewers, a "General Hardware Failure" is recognized by three quadrants of the ring around the power button flashing red. This error is often known as the "Red Ring of Death".

Nintendo Wii
A console under a very popular brand, Nintendo Wii was launched simultaneously with Sony's PlayStation 3. The Wii was launched in the United States on November 19, 2006 at $249.99, twice cheaper than PS3 when it was launched. Since its launch, the monthly sales numbers of the console have been higher than its competitors across the globe. According to the NPD Group, the Wii sold more units in the United States than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined in the first half of 2007. As of December 31, 2008 the Wii leads the generation over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in worldwide sales.

PlayStation 3
A very popular, yet very expensive console ever released. Launched in in North America on November 17, 2006, and March 23, 2007 in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand, PS3 already received criticism on its price. When it was first released, its price ranged from US$499 to US$599. A very expensive price for a video game console. Many people, especially in the Philippines, reacted on this price, which later was the said to be the down fall of the console. This downfall also caused developers to shift their focus on other brands such as the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii.

To reduce the cost of the system, its founders have decided to remove unimportant features of the console which also decreased its price range. Since the system's launch, production costs have been reduced significantly as a result of phasing out the Emotion Engine chip and falling hardware costs. The cost of manufacturing Cell microprocessors has fallen dramatically as a result of moving to the 65 nm production process and with 45 nm. The Blu-ray diodes, which is the unique feature of PS3, have become cheaper to manufacture. As of January 2008, each unit costs around $400 to manufacture.

Although PS3 is still very expensive for $400 USD, many people are now able to purchased one of these consoles. In the Philippines, according to different Electronics Philippines enthusiasts, from 30,000 pesos, the price have been reduced to about 18,000 to 20,000 Philippine pesos.
