5 Essentials To Look For When Picking Out Christmas Trees

By: Gen Wright Home | Home-and-Family

Christmas trees brighten up the holiday season and serve as a reminder to both individuals and families everywhere of the bond between God and nature. If you celebrate the season each year, then you know how important bringing a beautiful tree into your home can be. While many prefer reusable Christmas trees made from plastic or fiber optic materials, still others prefer to venture out into the wilds and find a live tree of their own. Some even base their Christmas traditions on the pre-holiday hunt and the post-holiday planting. No matter what type of Christmas trees you prefer for your home or business, there are a number of essential considerations that should influence your final selection process.

Size of tree versus ceiling height. Perhaps the most obvious consideration that you must know before picking out a tree is the height of your ceiling. This allows you to compare it against that of the tree to determine if it is a good natural fit. Even though some trees may be taller, that doesn't automatically disqualify them. If you can trim the tree without affecting its health and cosmetic beauty, it may still be perfect for your home or workplace.

Christmas trees shedding factors. Pine trees often shed their needles and produce some rather uncomfortable walking lanes as you move about the house. If a tree is prone to easily dropping sharp needles, you may not want to keep it around susceptible family members. Perhaps the biggest reason that many people choose plastic is that they do not have to contend with this unwelcome aspect of going natural.

Thickness and stability. A tree's height is not the only thing you have to consider when determining whether it is right for a room. For those with limited space, a tree that is too thick can get in the way of TV watching or handicap access (if you're celebrating at the workplace). Make sure that you don't have to thin the tree out so much that it threatens the overall strength.

Size versus amount of decorations available. Not every family has the ability to squeeze extra holiday decor into their budgets each year. If you don't have plans to add ornaments and lights to your budget, then make sure that the tree will accommodate what you have without appearing crowded or bare.

Mobility and price. Particularly for those who prefer natural trees, it is important that you can get the tree out of the ground and into your living room safely and effectively.

Christmas trees are not the "reason for the season," but they certainly bring a welcome glow of enjoyment into the lives of individuals and families alike, just as they can for you.
