5 Tips To Improve Poor Blood Circulation At Home

By: Nomi Kato Home | Health-and-Fitness

Poor blood circulation, most of the time affecting primarily the lower limbs, is a medical condition that is becoming more and more common each year. There was a time when it was thought to affect only older people, but now it is becoming more and more common among younger people due to the rising levels of obesity throughout the western world. There is hope, however. There are quite a few things you can do to combat poor blood circulation that do not involve expensive medical treatment or complicated procedures. In the following article, we will outline several of these methods that you can use on your own.

Work Out More Regular exercise is one of the best things you can to improve blood circulation in your body. When you are working out, the particular body part that is active is going to receive an increased blood flow than it normally would. Over time, you will steadily improve your circulation and overall cardiovascular system to the point where even your baseline circulation is much improved. The goal is to eventually work yourself up to thirty or more minutes per day.

You will want to start out somewhat easy in order to avoid injury, but as your fitness improves, you will definitely want to step that up to more vigorous exercise. A sedentary lifestyle is not good at all for circulation, so you will definitely want to get up and move.

Quit Smoking If you are a smoker and you visit a doctor for any reason, you are going to be told that you need to stop smoking. Not only does it lend itself to a whole host of chronic medical conditions, including reduced blood circulation. Smoking will harden your arteries and raise your blood pressure, neither of which are good for circulatory disorders.

Raise Your Legs The fact is that the majority of all circulation problems will occur in the legs. This causes blood to pool in your legs, causing a variety of aches and pains and physical changes, some of which could eventually lead to amputation. To help relieve that pressure, elevate your legs over the level of your heart for ten to fifteen minutes three times per day.

Change Your Eating Habits Diets that are high in sugars and fats will have a significant affect on the makeup of the blood in your body. When you eat a lot of these things, your blood begins to thicken, and because of this will not be able to flow nearly as easily. If you cut down on these and increase your intake of fiber, you will help to thin your blood and improve blood flow throughout your body.

Supplements In recent years, attention has turned to herbal supplements as a means to treat various medical conditions without having to resort to expensive doctor visits or dangerous prescriptions. Some of these herbs have even been tested and have shown to be effective in the treatment of the malady they have traditionally been used for. In the case of improving blood circulation, horse chestnut and pycnogenol have repeatedly been shown as effective.

This is only a small selection of the things you can do to help improve your circulation. Just get up and move to keep the blood moving, and support your activity with a healthy diet and other healthy habits, and you will see a definite improvement. Keep moving forward.
