5 Ways Christmas Lights Brighten Your Holiday Spirit

By: Gen Wright Home | Home-and-Family

The holidays are almost here again. The older that you get, the faster time moves, and the shorter the waits between Christmases seem. While it may always bring you good cheer to see the holidays upon you, it can be a very frustrating time when it comes to stringing up the Christmas lights. Why? Because they've got a reputation for always needing replacement, that's why! And most of you would rather spend time wrapping presents than dealing with burned out bulbs and that feeling of, "when one goes, they all go." But think about a Christmas without lights, and ask yourself, "Where would you be without them?" Before giving up on Christmas lights this year, consider the ways that they brighten your holiday spirits.

First of all, kids love to look at them. They also love to help you take part in the preparation. In fact, Christmas lights, whether on a tree or strung around the house, offer children one of their very first opportunities to feel as if they are a part of something. When you let your children help you string up the bulbs, you are sending an ever so subtle message that they are needed. A child may forget what he got for Christmas when he was 6 years old, but he will never forget the togetherness of hanging lights with Mom or Dad.

Secondly, Christmas lights are beautiful. They create a cozy atmosphere that warms the heart every time you plug them in. When you're watching the big game on TV with nothing but the colorful glow of the tree and decorations as lighting, it's hard not to fall in love with the season of giving. That addictive spirit will rub off on your family and friends and lead to greater goodwill that can last all throughout the following year.

Thirdly, Christmas lights give you a reason to take pride in your house or apartment. They make virtually any dwelling place a home instead of just a place to flop. It becomes a lot easier to entertain guests during the holidays when you can do so with a setup that demonstrates your tastes and spirit.

Christmas lights are also a cheap and affordable way of getting the entire family involved with one another. As the years go on, finding something that appeals to all of you gets harder and harder, but little traditions such as hanging the lights never go away.

Last but not least, Christmas lights give you a subtle way of becoming one with the rest of the world during this grand and glorious time. Show that you stand for peace and harmony by demonstrating your desire for togetherness with everyone around you. It can all start with the flick of a switch.
