6 Great Tips For Buying New Boat

By: Roberto Bell Home | Recreation-and-Sports

So you’ve been dreaming about a new boat for a while and you have finally decided you are ready to buy. Before you pay out the large amount of money for a new boat it is important to make sure you have covered all the necessary factors. When it comes to buying a new boat it is important to carefully consider the following six tips so you can be sure you are getting a good deal.

1.First off you need to consider what type of boating you are going to be doing. While this may seem obvious this is also the most important step. Many first time and long time boat buyers will get a boat that doesn’t fit their needs. This will leave you with a new boat that you won’t be able to use like you planned. Consider the type of water you will be in and what the climate is like. Once you are sure you are getting the right boat for your boating needs then you can start your research.

2. When it comes to researching your desired type of boat you should first call the U.S. Coast Guard and find out if there have been any manufacturers’ recalls for your model. If you find there has been a recall then ask the owner to provide proof that they made the necessary repairs. If the repairs have not been made research to confirm that the recall is still in effect. You should also carefully research the proof of ownership otherwise you may be buying a stolen boat. Once you know you are buying a legitimate boat you are ready for the next step.

2.Now you need to inspect the boat itself. With a new boat there shouldn’t be much wrong with it. But you should still carefully check the engine. If you aren’t mechanically inclined then you can choose to have a mechanical technician check the engine before you commit to buying the boat. Inspecting the boat is important since you don’t want to pay for a new boat that will turn out to have more problems than a used boat.

4. If you don’t have the time or are just plain confused by all the investigating and checking then you can choose to hire a marine surveyor. Sometimes this is even required for loan and insurance agents to approve you. A surveyor is knowledgeable on boat construction, safety, manufacturing laws, requirements, and recommendations and approved practices. This can assure you that you are getting a sound boat.

5.It is always good to buy a boat through a yacht broker. They will be able to help you with the entire process and answer any questions you have. They can also help arrange financing and negotiate a good price for you. This takes a lot of the hassle out of buying a new boat.

6. Now is the time that you need to consider the price. You can consult several marine price guides in order to find the market value of the boat. After the survey and sea trials you can determine if you are getting a good deal by paying market value for the boat or not.
