7 Ways To Have A Little Fun With Your Poster Designs

By: Colleen Davis Home | Business | Advertising

Sometimes, it really pays to have fun when printing posters. It can be a great creative exercise to leave the basic rules in printing posters out and just create a design right from the heart. You never know where your imagination will take you, and in most cases, you can even surprise yourself when you design and print posters this way.

Let me give you seven simple ways to have a little fun with your color poster designs. You don’t have to print all the designs you make in these exercises, but they should lead you to a more creative and innovative path in poster printing.

1. Have fun with the design genre †The most basic thing that you can have fun with in your color poster design is the design genre itself. You do not have to be a slave to the poster template and its poster style. Try out old and existing design genres and see if they will work for your poster content. From the classic corporate type or movie type of posters, why not use theme posters from the 50s, 70s, and 80s? Or maybe you may want to explore the typographical style of poster printing? Maybe you want to explore creating abstract designs? There are tons of different color poster genres, old and new that you can try out. Explore your imagination and see what will look good for your particular custom poster design.

2. Have fun with the color †You can of course try to play with the color themes of your custom posters. Do not just use the standard colors laid out on your color swatches or palette. Why don’t you try looking at other exotic colors and some unique and great looking color combinations. Look through different art inspirations and see how they combine and use color contrasts to develop great and eye catching effects. With a great and unique color theme, some color posters can really make a great impact. So try having a little fun with the colors in your posters, you never know what you will get.

3. Have fun with the fonts †With the thousands of free fonts available on the Internet, it is actually hard NOT to play with them for a time when designing color posters. So go with the flow and try to download and test as many great looking fonts that you can download for custom poster printing. Mix and match them with your different concept designs to get tons of interesting font and design combinations that you can play with. Trust me, you should be able to get a nice looking font for your color posters if you just have fun and experiment with them.

4. Have fun with the poster size †You may not realize this yet, but you can also try having fun with the poster size itself. Posters can come in different sizes from very large posters that can overwhelm a window, to small posters that look cute. There are different sizes that are appropriate for different designs, so try to experiment and have fun with what size works for your own layout.

5. Have fun with the poster shape †Posters are not limited to rectangular shapes. So sometimes, it pays to have fun and experiment a bit with square posters, circle posters and other specially shaped posters. These things can really attract a lot of readers when designed properly. So have fun and see if altering your poster’s shape can improve its impact.

6. Have fun with the inks †You should also know that you have plenty of different kinds of inks that you can play with in poster printing. Besides the traditional four color inks that are used for full color poster printing, there are also other specialized inks that give a certain unique color or maybe even add glitters and gleams to printed elements. These different inks can come in handy for different poster designs, so explore and see what will look good for you.

7. Have fun with the materials †Lastly, you should of course also have fun with the materials themselves for poster printing. From rough paper, to glossy paper and to recycled paper and special felt paper, there are lots of different things you can experiment with. Depending on the cost, some of these printing materials should be useful and effective, while others might not be that worth it for your specific poster theme. So just have fun and see what materials might work for you.

So those are the different things you can play with in your color poster design. Play with them well and take note of the creative ideas you gain from playing with your custom posters. There are always new and interesting poster design combinations that you can try out.
