9 Shopping Tips On Digital Cameras

By: Andy Lim Home |

For many newcomers to the digital camera marketplace, there are so many models and make of digital cameras. This can be overwhelming for many consumer if they don't understand how the features work. If you decided on buying a digital camera, what kind of specifications do you want? To help you overcome the confusion with information overload, here are some tips that can help you in choosing a right camera.

1. Determine what kind of pictures you want to take with it especially if you are a digital photography enthusiast because not just any model will do. As far as cost is concerned, no matter what your needs and wants are for the device, your budget will play a huge part in picking the type of model you like.

2. You will probably be downloading the images onto your personal computer. So check to see if your computer is capable of handling printing and editing these images. Some computer outlets supply complete computer systems that include a digital camera, printer, software and other accessories. This will save time in setting up your home image editing. Usually editing software is included when you buy digital camera except the hardware.

3. Aside from a printer, you will need a special photo version, ink and paper for printing. Although you may not print out poster size images, setting the megapixel resolution to its highest setting will ensure the prints are of better quality.

4. Additional memory cards will also be necessary but the price of these storage cards has decreased, and storage is now equal to what a desktop PC could offer just a few short years ago. Storage cards come in various types. Some can store up to 32 gigabytes for those very high resolution images. However, not every model is compatible with the very large ones although most users are fine with 1 to 2 gigabyte cards.

5. Holding the digital camera to see how it feels. With some of the newer models, functionality is compromised, making it harder to operate.

6. Before you buy a digital camera, check to see if it is supplied with batteries that are rechargeable. On the long run, you can save money with rechargeable batteries.

7. When buying your digital camera, look for a large LCD screen. Many newer cameras now offer large LCD display to allow you to focus the image better and you can also preview the pictures after capturing.

8. Buy a camera that has an optical zoom which usually start with 3x power. Avoid those cameras that only have digital zoom. Taking close up pictures using digital zoom usually look blurred.

9. Superior digital cameras hosts a tripod socket. This is a plus point. It comes very handy when you take close up or far away images.
