9 Tips To Fix Your Bad Breath Fast

By: Charles Zoe Home | Health-and-Fitness | Diseases-and-Conditions

Halitosis is a medical term for bad breath, a condition that affects thousands of people worldwide. If you're beginning to notice that people are keeping their distance, it might be the awful stench coming out of your mouth. Here's how to fix it.

1. Believe it or not, saliva is your best weapon against bad breath. That’s why dry mouth, often caused by certain medications or medical conditions, leads to odor problems. By washing away food particles and bacteria, saliva helps to eliminate odor, too.

2. Try adding a daily gargle or two with a dependable brand of mouthwash to your oral hygiene regimen. This is most usually only a temporary fix, but when added to the habitual brushing and flossing, it will matter more and show more improvement in the over all results when trying to learn how to fix bad breath.

3. Brush your tongue. According to the ADA, bacteria that cause foul breath lurk on the back of your tongue. Brush them away, and it can reduce breath odor by up to 70%!

4. Can you steal a sprinkle of salt from the table? Mix up a warm saltwater solution and swish in your mouth for about 30 seconds. Even better, gargle the water at the back of your throat and kill the stink longer.

5. Most dentists advise you to brush your teeth at least three times a day, and to floss at least twice a day. By following these simple steps, you have possibly solved almost half of the dilemma of attempting to figure out how to fix bad breath.

6. Eating plain yogurt twice a day can actually help permanently lower the amount of hydrogen sulfide in your mouth, studies have shown. Fruits like berries and melons are also great. Just stay away from lemons and others high in acid. This is one of the best bad breath cure.

7. Try fenugreek tea. Available at health food stores. This herb has a spicy, minty flavor. Fenugreek tea will leave your mouth tingly fresh and your breath smelling like an herbal shampoo!

8. Flavored gum Big Red found that cinnamon might have breath-odor fighting abilities. Unlike other flavors, cinnamon is not just a cover-up, Wolner tells WebMD. In fact, he says, an ingredient in the flavoring appears to actually decrease the bacteria in your mouth. The only problem is that sugar gums are bad for your teeth, so stick to sugarless cinnamon-flavored gum instead.

9. If you don't have some gum handy to loosen any protein stuck between your teeth, try chewing on any high-fiber fruit or vegetable, like pears, carrots or celery. The rough texture of the food can help loosen food, while your saliva will help wash it away.
