A Clearer Picture Of The Various Types Of Windows And Doors

By: Mark Grinshpun Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

There are so many types of windows and doors that it may become difficult to make the right selection when you are thinking of windows and doors installation or windows doors replacement. The different types of doors and windows listed below will give a clearer idea of their usage and appropriateness.

Bay windows used to be very popular in Victorian architecture and although they are not much used at present, they can still be seen in certain old houses. The main advantage of these is that they let in plenty of natural light and offer good ventilation besides unrestricted views of the outside which is not the case with conventional windows.

These windows have one solid piece in the center and a casement on the either side. Bow windows look similar to bay windows but are actually made up of four or more windows. Their design makes them appear round instead of strictly angular and they can be made into custom windows. They provide extra flat space which can be utilized for seating purposes.

Casement window typically hangs vertically and opens out from the wall. It is ideal for placement above countertops or cabinets and serves a decorative purpose also as it can be used as doors to any storage area. These windows also work out great as replacement windows.

Sliding windows come as single, double, triple and lift out and while the single one is good for small spaces, the double facilitates easy cleaning. Tilt Turn windows are energy-efficient and can withstand the most unfavorable weather conditions. They can open up in multiple positions allowing better control over the ventilation.

Vinyl windows are very much in demand because they are easy to install and maintain. Vinyl windows have become effective replacements for wood, aluminum or fiberglass and are highly energy efficient.

Exterior doors should preferably be either steel doors or fiberglass doors as both these doors offer adequate protection against the elements and are sturdy and strong. Steel doors are also used for cold storage rooms or basement rooms. Fiberglass doors can be made to look like any type of wood and they are extremely sturdy, being able to withstand the most inclement of weather conditions. They are ideal as exterior doors as fiberglass is a difficult material to destroy and thus these doors offer very good protection against theft.

Patio doors too need to be strong and the sliding ones can either be merely decorative or act as an entry to the backyard. The sliding patio doors help to maintain the required climate control. French doors use glass extensively and are highly popular for decorative purposes as they look stylish and elegant.

When you are considering doors windows wherever you are, make sure that you go to the right company, be it for calgary window replacement or window installation Toronto. Insist on high quality materials for your doors Calgary or window replacement calgary even if it is for basement windows and check whether there is a warranty or not.
