A Closer Look At Cement Mixers

By: Magnus Karlson Home | Self-Improvement

Since the days of the Ancient Egyptians, streets and sidewalks have been paved using concrete and cement. Today, the technology used today to produce concrete has morphed into a better brand than what the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans used. These used baking ovens to mix clay with straw and other earthen material to formulate material that was later used for construction. Today's concrete and cement mixers have a very different look and work much different than their earlier counterparts. When you mention cement mixers, people imagine the huge cement rotating drums that are mounted on large construction trucks. This is more or less true.

It is easy to confuse cement mixers with concrete mixers. While the concept is similar, they are actually quite different. Most people however refer to them interchangeably. Cement mixers utilize special technology to mix gravel, sand, water and other materials to create cement. Cement is then used to constuct the sidewalks and road paths we are familiar with.

These are very convenient when it comes to construction. In centuries past, construction was done by mixing concrete with other materials. Man did this all by himself or with the use of oxen or donkeys. This was not only dangerous, but it was slow and inefficient. The end product was also of low quality compared to what we have now.

This problem has been solved by cement mixers. They save time and produced a better quality end-product. In previous decades, the work of mixing was all done by humans. Then the ferrying of the cement to the site was done via oxen or wheel barrows. This was slow and inefficient as we mentioned. Cement mixers brought new technology that streamlined all this. This encouraged efficiency and time saving. In the cement mixer, the cement is processed evenly and mixed while the truck is in motion. This saves alot of time.

Cement began being part of road construction in the 1800s and all this was brought about by the motor revolution which caused many cars to be manufactured. Then in the 1920s automobiles became more widespread and so did concrete mixers.

In the 1970s, there were some concerns raised by environmentalists regarding cement mixers and there were technological modifications made in order to ensure that the cement mixers were environment. Today, the cement mixers, use safer materials, emit less toxins, are skid resistant and are also more or less weather resistant. The 18-wheeler trucks have also been modified to support cement and transportation of that cement to and fro the construction site.

Today, over 90% of the roads in the United States are constructed using cement. Cement mixer trucks can be bought from the regular car dealers that sell ordinary cars. Companies like Ford, Fiat, Mercedes Benz all have truck divisions which sell cement mixer trucks.

If you wanted to purchase a cement mixer truck you also might want to look online. If your budget is shoe-string then the best place to look for a cement mixer truck is online where someone may be selling a used truck. eBay also stocks good deals when it comes to cement trucks and the price is also affordable because eBay allows buyers to bid on the products.
