On March 6, 2009, Nintendo announced that it had shipped its 100-millionth Nintendo DS system.

This success wouldn't be possible without Nintendo's endless desire to innovate and upgrade their system to further accommodate the needs of their consumers. One of these innovation have produced a redesign of the the console that further gave rise to the console's popularity. This is the Nintendo DS Lite.

A Lighter yet more Heavier NDS

Nintendo DS Lite was announced on January 26, 2006, more than a month before its initial release in Japan on March 2, 2006 due to overwhelming demand for the original model. According to Electronics Philippines enthusiasts, NDS Lite has been released in Australia, North America, Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, and defined regions in South America, the Middle East, and East Asia. As of June 30, 2009, shipments of the DS Lite have reached 82.26 million units worldwide, according to Nintendo.

The Nintendo DS Lite, like its predecessor, retained it's unique features such as sporting a dual screen, in which the second screen (lower screen) is a touch screen. The major difference between NDS and NDS Lite is its slimmer, brighter, and more lightweight redesign of the Nintendo DS. According to several Electronics Philippines reviewers, it was designed to be aesthetically sleeker while taking styling cues from the Game Boy Advance SP, and to appeal to broader commercial audiences.
