A Look At Finding Affordable And Durable Large Fountains

By: David Scott Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

If you want to make a real statement in your outdoor landscaping you may want to take a closer look at large fountains. These can be fantastic for use in any garden or outdoor space and, because they are available in a range of styles, are not limited to formal gardens or manicured spaces.

If you think that large fountains are limited to carved monoliths that have classic elements such as statues or obelisks and which are only available in marble or other stone, you may be surprised to find out that they are also made from other materials such as cast stone fountains, cement fountains and even metal fountains. The style that you pick will largely depend on the kind of landscaping you have and your own personal preferences.

If you really love the sound of water flowing, consider large fountains that have a lot of levels to them. As the water runs down, it will make more noise if it can run over and play off of numerous shelves, outcroppings and ledges. Formal large fountains may use a graduated series of increasingly large basins that fill up with water. This allows the water to flow down and you can get quite a loud sound that can be very relaxing. If you are not as interested in the sound of the fountain, you may want to consider a more streamlined fountain that does not have as many levels or areas for water to flow over.

If you like the idea of cast stone fountains with a lot of sound to them but do not like the traditional styling of large fountains, there are cast stone fountains that also are shaped like large rock falls or waterfalls. These can be beautiful if they are used in a less formal landscape. Imagine how wonderful it could be to find cast stone fountains shaped like a waterfall tucked into a shade garden where you can imagine yourself in a beautiful forest clearing?

Cast stone fountains are a great choice when you are considering large fountains. They are lighter which can make it less expensive to ship them. It also means that cast stone fountains are less expensive to begin with since the amount of labor needed to create them is much less than large fountains made from marble.

This is because instead of having to carve many details into large fountains, cast stone fountains use molds to create the detail. This means that the stone mixture can be shaped however the company would like and can result in ornate curves, shapes and other details.

Cast stone fountains are also durable. Because the stone lacks many of the air pockets that real stone have, cast stone fountains are often unaffected by weather changes. If water can get into air pockets in natural stone large fountains, the expansion of the water in cold weather may cause the stone to crack or shatter. With cast stone fountains this is not an issue.

If you are interested in cast stone fountains, whether they are small fountains or large fountains, the Internet can give you a great idea about the various styles and materials that are available.
