If you are considering using cast stone fountains in your landscape, you want to make sure you know how to look after them properly. Cast stone fountains are durable so they can last upwards of 100 years if they are cared for properly. Other manufacturers recommend that you allow cast stone fountains to age naturally and either avoid using sealant or wait for some time before applying it to outdoor garden fountains. If you are using a sealant, you may want to make sure that you apply it every year for optimal protection. One thing that is necessary regardless of whether outdoor garden fountains are made of natural stone or cast stone is to make sure that all of the water is removed in winter. Ideally you should make sure that the water pipes are clear of water and that the pump is brought inside. This is because water can expand a lot and this can damage all parts of the fountain. You may also want to make sure that if cast stone fountains in your yard have bowls that can be removed that they are turned upside down to prevent any water getting into them when snow melts. Again, this is because water can freeze and expand and even a very small amount of water can cause a lot more damage than you might think possible. Taking the time to understand how to properly care for outdoor garden fountains can help ensure that they will remain in as good a shape as possible for as long as possible.
