A Look At Some Of The Situations In Which An Air Charter Becomes A Necessity

By: Gen Wright Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Most of us have been conditioned to view air charters as luxuries. In this regard, the air charter is looked at as being analogous to the road taxi. We all know the situations in which a person hires a taxi. A person hires a taxi when, the availability of shared public travel means notwithstanding, they feel that they deserve more comfort, or more privacy. So rather than taking the tube, or the bus (as may be the case), they decide to make use of the taxi - usually at a higher cost than they would have to pay for the bus or train. The higher cost is justified by the higher degree of privacy and comfort afforded by the taxi, and the whole deal seems quite fair. Under this way of thinking, then, taking the bus or train is seen as a matter of necessity. Hiring a taxi, in spite of there being buses or trains on the other hand, is seen as a matter of luxury: that is, paying more to get better/more comfortable services.

In the aviation sector, similar systems exist. A person looking to travel from point A to point B can take an airline flight between those points A and B. But in so doing, they would have to share the aircraft with others. They may also not get to choose whom they share their aircraft with. The timings of the flights and even the routes (in some cases) are beyond their control. Alternatively, the person looking to travel from point A to B can take an air charter. This would afford them a greater degree of comfort, and a greater degree of privacy than making use of the invariably shared airliner service.

Yet, all that notwithstanding, there are some situations in which use of an air charter becomes a matter of necessity, and not luxury. Indeed, a considerable percentage of people who look to charter aircraft do so under the motivation of necessity, rather than in pursuit of luxury.

So, what are some of these situations when an air charter becomes a matter of necessity?

Well, the commonest situation in which an air charter becomes a matter of necessity is when a person looks to fly to or from a place that is not served by any scheduled airline service. Some of these places are not (easily) accessible by road or rail either - making the procurement of air charter services when looking to get there an absolute necessity.

There are also the situations when a person in a place that is otherwise well served an airline gets seriously ill, requiring far-away emergency medical attention, and when the logistics of trying to get them on a formal airline flight seem overwhelming. In situations like those, procurement of an air charter service would also be a matter of necessity, not luxury.

There is also the situation where a person has some cargo that needs urgent air freight, and when trying to get a cargo airline to freight it proves impracticable. That too, would be a situation in which the engagement of an air charter may be well warranted, as a matter of necessity, and not luxury.
