Paul Harvey is known as a Premier Marketer and had been doing it successfully long before the Internet was even conceived. Paul Harvey, an American Icon for over 50 years, known best for "the rest of the story" and his classic ending to each broadcast: Good Day! Nine years ago in the year 2000, when he was 82 years old he signed a 10 year, 100 million dollar contract with ABC and completed all but the last year of it when he passed away at age 89 in early 2009. Yes, a 10 year 100 million dollar contract! Don't you think that if we're going to follow the lead of someone in marketing and advertising that this is one great choice. Now, of course, we will all be following his lead with respect to his ultimate destination as we have no choice. But with regard to the use of content within a niche and marketing consistently, we would all do well to follow. You see Paul Harvey was a premier marketer long before the internet. So, what is the rest of the story here? Paul Harvey understood that you find and develop your niche, build great content to support it, and then consistently meet the ongoing wants of that niche market. Sound Familiar? Isn't this the strategy we read and hear about every day that we now have named web 2.0? Paul Harvey just did it naturally. He didn't need a name for it - and as for you and me, we should consider seriously following his lead if we want to compete in a crowded marketplace. Who else could make an advertisement for popcorn and make it sound like breaking news right off the press! And when you realized it was an advertisement you weren't angry but rather... a smile slowly drew itself around your lips ...and since the advertisers paid dearly for his commercials the hearers were obviously remembering and / or responding to those uniquely spoken ads. Paul Harvey only had a high school education when he was hired for his first gig for $29.50 per week reading the lead into the broadcast for the Saturday Matinee at the Metropolitan Opera. He believed in hard work! He hated big government! And while he stood for conservative values was never really seen as being "political"! His last broadcast was made just a few days prior to his death while lying quietly in the Mayo Clinic. This legends' 70 year career is phenomenal and he taught all of us gurus long ago what it took many of us a lifetime to learn - Find your niche, provide excellent content, be consistent, honest and hard working and you can market yourself to the great heights you deserve.
