A Tale Of Three Toasters

By: Dominic Donaldson Home |

There is something incredibly exciting about furnishing your first home. Usually young, perhaps not so free (thanks to a heavy mortgage) and quite often not so single, embarking on an adventure of owning and decorating your own dwellings is truly exhilarating. However once the excitement has settled down, comes the overwhelming moment you discover all the items you will need to buy to fill this beautiful new abode. This article looks at one of the items guaranteed to be on the list of items to buy; the kitchen toaster.

I still remember the delight when I discovered my friends six slot toaster. My family had always had a small white two slot model and with a family of four, it made for long waits over breakfast each morning, as we each cued up and steadily dropped two slices of granary bread into the machine. While sitting in my friend's kitchen one day, I discovered what I assumed must be a new invention, a toaster for six pieces of bread at one time. If this wasn't new on the market, what other reason could there be for my family not already having one? However I was later informed by my mum that this wonderful invention had actually been on the market some time but she had simply chosen to remain loyal to her old brand. That, I learned is the wonder of kitchen utensils and gadgets; there are so many varieties and ultimately, it comes down to your preferences, requirements and style as to which one ends up making you breakfast.

First thing therefore to decide is what size you require. If you are buying for a family, it may be worth investing in a six slot toaster however if you are living alone, you may simply require two or four slots. Once you have decided this, you can select your toaster by four other categories, brand, cost, colour or style.

If you are creating a designer kitchen then brand may be a useful selection and a possible option could be the Dualit 4 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster 40352. Apart from making great toast, it looks stunning, with a classic stainless steel finish. There is even an accompanying sandwich case that you can slot in to the machine to make toasted sandwiches, buns and crumpets. Also, to ensure your toast stays warmer for longer, the machine is designed so the bread does not pop up when it is toasted, you simply press an ejector knob to remove it when it is ready.

If brand is not highly important to you but a retro style is, the Kitchenaid Artisan brand or Delongi have some excellent options. The KitchenAid Artisan 5KTT780BER toaster comes in a variety of shades, includes red, cream and black and is effortlessly chic. The retro look is composed of solid knobs, buttons and smooth curved lines and is even assembled by hand from die-cast metal parts to ensure top performance and quality.

At the other end of the market, if all you are looking for is an inexpensive, simple machine to brown your bread at breakfast, Cookworks offer an impressive signature 4 slice toaster. With an optional two slice setting, browning control and removable crumb tray, as well a cool stylish silver exterior this is an excellent choice if you're looking for change out of fifteen pounds.

With many other options available on the market, there are toasters to suit all tastes, budgets, colour schemes and appetites. The only decision you need to make is which one will you choose to grace your new sparkling kitchen?
