About Massages

By: Fred Martimes Home | Health-and-Fitness

Massage is the kneading and rubbing parts of the body to increase circulation and promote relaxation. Massage therapy is often where a practitioner applies pressure or vibrations to the soft tissues of the body that can include joints, muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments. Massage is effective when applied to both specific parts of the body or as a complete body massage in order to heal injuries, relieve psychological stress, manage pain, improve circulation and even relieve tension. When massage is used specifically as massage therapy, it is being used for both its psychological and physical benefits to the subject receiving the massage.

Massage therapy is said to have more benefits than for healing and stress management. Anyone who indulges in a massage is said experience increased relaxation, a soothing sensation, healing benefits, a comforting feeling, the release of tension, stiffness and pain, better breathing patterns, increased circulation and an overall improved sense of well being. Massage is often thought of as effective in treating the muscles just under the skin's surface, but its benefits may go deeper into the body and even to the organs. Massage is effective in activating blood circulation and helping the lymphatic system (interconnected system of spaces and vessels between body tissues and organs by which lymph circulates throughout the body) while bettering the excretion of waste throughout the body.

Most times when an individual will have a professional massage or participate in massage therapy, they are required to undress and lie down on a massage table or in a massage chair. While the person receiving a massage is virtually naked, the body is always covered with a towel or sheet in order to help the client relax during their massage and to stay warm. While men and women require coverage on different areas during a massage, massage professionals and therapists are well trained in maintaining modesty throughout all massages.

The benefits of massage can be experienced through a single massage, but a series of massage treatments will be the most beneficial to any massage recipient, as the effects are successive. Massage can result in a stronger, more toned body and assist in preventing injury. Tension reduction and reduced stimulation of the nervous system as a result of regular massage can also help in an increased energy level. So if your no already having them often, you may want to think about your relaxation and health for the future.
