Acne Home Remedies Versus Ingrained Myths

By: Davion Wong... Home |

Scientific advances have not managed to shake various myths from the minds of people. The pervasiveness of these myths even covers how people understand acne and how people accept acne home remedies. Some of these myths are in relation to medication from drugstores, while some are in relation to other health issues.

1. Junk food causes acne outbreaks.

While junk food, as implied by its name, is not particularly good for the body in terms of nutrient content, is not reason for acne. This myth may have grown from acne being common in teenagers, who are also considered as big consumers of junk food. A healthy diet, however, might help by reducing acne that body toxins may have caused.

Acne Home Remedies - Second Rate to Over-the-Counter Medication

This myth may have stemmed from the difference in perceived effectiveness between acne home remedies and medications which can be bought over the counter. Over-the-counter acne medication, formulated to provide immediate alleviation of medical problems, display much faster (if not immediate) results in removing acne. Naturally-derived, homemade acne remedies may take longer to take effect, but are not necessarily less effective than their drugstore counterparts.

Sun Exposure Lessens Acne

What sun exposure can actually do is make your pimples less visible, but it will not remove them. Mild tan provides only visual effect of improvement; overexposure can make your inflammation even worse. You are damaging your skin much more than doing any good, while exposing it to ultra-violet. The method might bring temporary relief from acne, but is not really worth it.

4. Combining a lot of different over-the-counter acne medicines will clear it forever.

People who seek to eliminate acne sometimes go on overdrive by applying a combination of over-the-counter treatments, believing that this will eliminate their acne forever. Most of these over-the-counter drugs are a combination of strong components, and as such, may harm one's skin. The skin reacts to various medications differently, and may result in skin damage, dryness, and inflammation. Even these over-the-counter drugs do not promise eternal effectiveness. As such, there's much damage at risk for using over-the-counter treatments excessively.

5. Over-the-counter acne treatments can prevent acne outbreaks.

There are a good number of people who apply curative acne treatments on the skin even before acne strikes, believing that such topical application will prevent the occurrence of acne. Curative acne treatments are meant to cure acne that already exists, not to prevent them. Moreover, applying these acne creams as a preventive measure to non-existent pimples will instead cause the skin to become dry and more susceptible to inflammation.

If you want to prevent acne, there is nothing better than acne home remedies. You can use them daily to clean, moisturize and nourish your skin without the fear of adverse side-effects. Besides, acne home remedies are easily available and more affordable to use on a day-to-day basis. Check out my skin care blog for effective remedies that can cure your acne in 3 days.
