One great way to change your home completely is to install a wooden floor. Wooden floors instantly make a house look and feel cleaner. They are also great as they never date and need less day to day cleaning than a carpet. Once more a wooden floor is a healthier option for your family as it doesn’t harbour dust like other floor coverings.

When you start to look at the variety of wooden flooring options it can all be a bit bewildering. There are different types of wood to choose from and then there are different types of wood flooring that can be installed. Each of these has different requirements and some you can install yourself whilst others will need a professional installation. As there are so many wood flooring choices available to you this article gives you an overview of a couple of those that you may want to consider when you are replacing a floor.

When renovating a room it is a good idea to consider the type of wood flooring that is appropriate for you room. In this article we will look at three types of solid wood flooring that are available to you. There are many other different types of flooring, laminate and mechanical engineered which make your choice even harder to make but in reality your choice of floor depends on your personal preferences for colour and the type of usage you have for the space.

Three specific types of wood flooring are oak, pine and bamboo. These are all woods that we are familiar with, we see them in furniture and so understand their colors and qualities. These qualities are transferable to wooden flooring. Each of these types of floors have their advantages and disadvantages but can provide an interior design solution and a solid base for a room.

Oak Flooring
We have all seen oak flooring in stately homes and know what a traditional look it gives to a room. In fact it is this traditional nature that makes it durable and therefore has the ability, if looked after correctly to last a long time. Oak is a dark wood that looks good in a large room providing a distinctive rich look and style.

Pine Flooring
Pine is another wood that we are all familiar with, you see it in dressers, wardrobes and beds and it is a good functional wood that can be stained darker if necessary but is usually seen as a paler wood. Pine will be a cheaper wood flooring option to oak, but is still as durable.

Bamboo Flooring
Something that is a more modern wood flooring option is Bamboo. Bamboo is manufactured from bamboo shoots which are glued together to create a plank of wood. This type of wood flooring is less traditional than hardwood but can be an option for lighter traffic areas.

Whatever your choice if wood flooring it is sometimes good to talk to an expert before you choose your final wooden floor. There are companies who offer a full service wooden floor installation service.
