Ten years ago, term MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) did not exist at all. Nowadays, thousands of people are absorbed by imagined worlds of social MMORPG. MMORPG successfully inherited almost all advantageous features of its parents - one-player computer rpg and board games. In massive multiplayer online games users are free to create their virtual personages in a fantasy or science fiction world (there are hardly any role-playing games, based on real events), and afterward develop their character, getting into the role and enjoying inconceivable adventures. Free MMO games behaved like an obedient child and didn't miss the chance to learn from its predecessors. But like a genius kid, it went further. Fantasy Chat Room. Features characteristic to a massive multiplayer online game only are numerous. But first of all you think about its highly developed social perspective. Thousands of colourful characters controlled by real people from different corners all round the planet is a weighty incentive to take part in the lively conversation. You never know who is hidden under the mask of its personage. A savage Mafioso may turn out to be a wimpy schoolboy, while gorgeous and sociable Baby Doll may stand for a gloomy old chap. But social interaction in online MMO games is not confined to banal chat in a fantasy or science fiction setting. First, gamers can unite in squads to study together dungeons, complete missions, kill monsters and outwit enemies. Secondly, they can join different guilds (organizations by common interests and goals), whether built on democratic or feudal-monarchical principles. Social interaction became a significant part of all online games; it takes different forms and continues to develop. Brutal, Cruel World. There is also a third reason to unite. It is always easier to defeat the rival when you are part of a powerful squad. Such thing as Player Killing can be found in some way or another in almost all free online multiplayer rpg games. To give a good blowup to your neighbor and thus show your personal success is a natural desire of every player. Combat with computer-controlled opponents cannot bring such pleasure and that is a proven fact that developers strive to use. However, they do impose some restrictions so as newcomers wouldn't be terrorized by experienced players. Evidently all MMORPGs become some kind of a battlefield. The difference lies in the setting. Are There Any Imperfections? There is one aspect in which browser based MMO still surrenders the position to its simpler opponents. When it comes to plot and its development, MMORPG usually has little to boast of, which can be easily explained. You can make up complex storylines when a limited number of people take active complicity in the game and influence the events. But when the number of gamers reaches thousands of people, and all they have different characters and wishes, the task seems to be a mission impossible. So MMORPG rarely features unexpected turns in the subject. But that is the challenge for developers who have no intention to give up.
