Advantages Of Gel Nails Over Acrylic Nails

By: Gen Wright Home | Health-and-Fitness

As gel nails start to appear common place in beauty and health saloons, many people are starting to wonder what are the benefits of having gel nails. It used to be the case that acrylic nails are the most commonly seen. However, more and more people are trying out gel nails now. Here are 3 advantages that gel nails have over traditional acrylic nails.

1) Highly durable. - This is perhaps the most distinct advantage. Gel nails are highly flexible, and they can be expected to last a longer time as compared to acrylic nails. Nails made from acrylic are more brittle. They tend to crack or break on impact. If you knock your fingers against some hard surface, there goes a pair of acrylic nails. You will have to replace the nails. But if you have gel nails on your fingers, the nails will absorb part of the impact by bending slightly and this reduces the chances of damaging the nails. For this reason, gel nails are the preferred choice for important occasions. It's just embarrassing to have long damaged nails on such occasions.

2) Doesn't turn yellow easily. - It is commonly known that acrylic nails tend to turn yellow over time. That means you can't really store the nails for a long period of time without the surface changing colors. This is just a characteristic of acrylic and there is nothing that can be done to prevent this from happening. Gel nails, on the other hand, don't turn yellow as easily. Of course, gel nails can still grow yellow with age, but it takes a much longer time for that to happen. The original colors stay bright and new even after many months.

3) Odorless and easy to maintain. - Finally, you don't have to worry about odors. Fake nails sometimes emit uncomfortable odors due to the paint on the surface. You want your nails to look natural on your fingers. So you don't want others to easily guess that your long shiny nails are actually fake finger nails. If the nails are giving out strong odors, that's a tell-tale sign. So whenever possible, choose to use gel nails.

One downside of gel nails is that it's more costly compared to acrylic nails. But given the durability of gel nails, the pricing doesn't seem all that expensive. If you are to use acrylic nails, you will probably end up spending more trying to replace the nails that are damaged.

So should you invest in gel nails? That depends on how much you value your appearances. If long lasting appearances are important to you, then gel nails is the way to go. They are easy to maintain, flexible, and don't damage easily. The colors stay bright and new for a reasonable length of time. It's one of the most natural looking nails you will ever get.
