Aim For A High Police Officer Salary

By: michael russell Home | Business | Careers-Employment

Qualifications and Work Experience

The job of a police patrol officer mainly includes the due prevention of crime, detection of criminals and law enforcement within the assigned area. They also have to conduct investigations and verifications related to committed crimes or alleged criminals. Arresting the guilty, taking immediate action at the crime scene and making crime reports are their major responsibilities.

For best earnings, a police patrol officer needs at least a high school diploma or an associate's degree in criminal justice. Bachelor degree always increases the prospects of a rewarding salary. A minimum of 12-18 months of relevant work experience is required in law enforcement, to get into the high bracket payscale of police officers. Police officers with an average experience of 5-10 years are the ones who draw the maximum salary. Therefore, higher the degree and work experience, higher the salary of a police officer.

Location

Size, cost of living and demography of a particular city affect the average salary of the police patrol officer. For example, the police officers posted in New Jersey and California are the recipients of highest salaries in comparison to the police officers posted in other cities; as the cost of living in these cities is far less than others.

The commute time also adds up to the expenditure done by the police officers, so lower the cost of commutation, higher the police officer salary . For example, the police officers of Los Angeles spend more time in commutation, doing more expenditure rather than making money.
