With all of the different kinds of personal lube for men and women to choose from, the more you find out about the various lubes, the less you may find you really know. Personal lube is a topic that sometimes raises more questions than answers. In general there are four different kinds of personal lube. There are water based lubes, good for vaginal penetration, oil based lubes, great for men who need lubricant for masturbating, silicone based lubes, which are good for sex without silicone toys being used, and then a lube that is a water and silicone base mixed together. The best general use lubricant is probably the silicone based personal lube. Even though all of the types of lube have pros and cons, silicone based lube seems to have the best balance between the two. The silicone based personal lubes have a thick, smooth, lush consistency to them, which many people really enjoy. They last longer than water based lubes because of this, and do not need to be reapplied nearly as often as water based ones. Usually, a higher end silicone lube feels silky and smooth to both partners. Silicone personal lube is more expensive than water lubes, however, but you dont need to use nearly as much. A really good silicone lube ideally should not contain parabens or glycerin, which can cause infections and mess with the ph of the vagina. Commonly, people who are used to using water based lube may find that it takes them a while to get used to the silicone ones. Or, they may not ever really like them at all. Although many silicone personal lubes have a pleasant or neutral odor, some do have a chemical like smell and a distinct, bad taste. A commonly complained about drawback is that silicone personal lubes are difficult to wash off of the skin, usually requiring a couple of washings with soap. Unfortunately, silicone lubricants have a tendency to stain sheets and comforters, so strip the bed before you lube up! Some bonus uses for a good silicone personal lube is that they are great for massages for people who dont like getting all oiled up to get a good rub down. Also, silicone personal lube can be used as a great skin moisturizer. With all of these good qualities comes a bad one, though. If you use adult toys that are made of silicone, the silicone lubes can damage them, so keep them separated! Most silicone personal lubes are condom friendly, so suit up and use the silicone personal lube, already!
