By: Dora Davies Home | Business

There is a huge scope in taking up various trucking jobs in Illinois. Numerous companies are always searching for truck drivers with right eligibility and experience.

What To Expect From Your Company ?

Pay Structure

National Drivers can expect to get started at a minimum of $0.36/mile and reach up to $0.39/mile, as they gain five to six years of experience. If you are a national driver paid on a practical route miles basis, you can even fetch $0.49/mile. Dedicated and regional fleet drivers are usually paid less than national fleet drivers.

If you are a less experienced driver, you can also expect to go through various training programs of the company. Companies may choose to pay according to a monthly or weekly payment structure. Some carriers like to pay their drivers on a profit-earning basis.

Apart from a regular pay structure, Illinois trucking jobs also include specific pays to their drivers such as shag pay for picking up and delivering loads and compensation for layover (only when its due to operational reasons). Trucking jobs also include compensation for loading/unloading in case freight is not drop-trailer type.

Benefits

Some trucking companies in Illinois provide their truck drivers with a family rider policy that gives them the freedom to take along their family members with them on their trip, free of cost.

In order to get the best of drivers, companies provide numerous benefits with trucking jobs. These include insurance, medical, dental, and disability benefits.

The company may also provide you with E-ZPass transponder that enables you to save time while paying tolls. E-Z transponder is valid on Illinois toll road. In contemporary times, it's not a big deal if you ask for a laptop and cell phone from your company. Many companies also equip their trucks with satellite radios and GPS systems.

What A Company Expects From You ?

*They are looking for candidates with right qualifications and relevant experience
*You need to have a verifiable work history and that would include the work history record from your last 3 employers
*Majority of companies would like to go through your DAC driver history. So you should better get a check on that
*You need to have a clean personal driving history and it should be reflected on your MVR
*You need to have a Class (A) C.D.L. HAZMAT endorsement
*You hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Additional CDL endorsements would be an added advantage
*You are update on your current knowledge of DOT and HOS, as is prevalent in different states and this would surely give you an edge over the other drivers. Such requirements usually frame rules and regulations in terms of time, speed of delivery and so forth.
*Some specialized local trucking jobs need you to be certified in specific fields, such as hazardous materials and specialized vehicles

You have to remember that there is no hard and fast rule to get recruited by best companies around for the truck driver work. The recruitment procedure differs for different trucking jobs. So you have to be specific about what you need and what you get.
