Alpha Lipoic Acid-the Super Antioxidant

By: Home | Health-and-Fitness

Alpha Lipoic acid is, among other things, considered the "super antioxidant" for its ability to neutralize free radical damage in the body (Free radicals are the free floating destructive chemicals that are the byproducts of cellular metabolism). An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.

Well known aging effects such as skin wrinkling, vision impairment, joint problems, and diseases ranging from cancer to arthritis are a result of free radical damage. The damage that free radicals inflict on the body causes inflammation which leads to virtually all diseases as stated in an issue of Time Magazine in February, 2005 (cover titled The Secret Killer, The surprising link between INFLAMMATION and HEART ATTACKS, CANCER, ALZHEIMER'S and other diseases). Because of it's fat and water soluable properties it is able to penetrate all cellular regions in the human body. This is made possible because it is both fat and water soluble. This sulfur containing, vitamin like phyto-nutrient is packs much more firepower that your average antioxidant due to its easy absorption throughout the entire body. In terms of bodyfat reduction and building lean muscle tissue supplementing Alpha Lipoic Acid supports both processes. When taken on a daily basis it also protects the brain from free radical damage and reduces the chances of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, strokes, and dementia. There are numerous antiaging and wellness benefits derived from this super antioxidant. Unfortunately Alpha Lipoic Acid, necessary for energy production at the cellular level, is produced in limited supply in the body. It is, therefore, necessary to consume foods that or nutritional products that contain this substance for that powerful antioxidant punch. The consumed version is what is believed to form the protective barrier to all things resulting from free radical damage. When purchasing Alpha Lipoic Acid it is important to select a high quality brand from a reputable company. In the web of choices in the marketplace it is difficult to distinguish weak products from the superior ones. The prices are comparable but the quality isn't. Look for a comprehensive product, nutritional drink, nutritional supplement or herb that combines nutrients that work in conjunction with Alpha Lipoic Acid.
