An Effective Leadership And Its Functions

By: Ron Home | Recreation-and-Sports | Camping

Good leaders are made and not born. If you have the wish and willpower, you could become an effective leader. Good leaders develop by a never ending process of self-study, training, education and experience. This guide would help you through that process. To motivate your workers into upper levels of teamwork, there are certain things you should know, and, do. These do not come as you would expect, but are acquired by continual work and study. Good leaders are repeatedly working and are studying to develop their leadership skills; they are not resting on their laurels.

Before we get started with it, let us define leadership first. Leadership is a course of action by which a person influences others to attain a purpose and directs the organization in a way that make it more organized and coherent. Leaders carry out this by applying their leadership attributes, like beliefs, values, character, ethics, knowledge, and skills. Even though your position as a manager, supervisor etc. gives you the authority to carry out certain tasks and objectives in the organization, this power will not make you a leader, it simply makes you boss. Leadership differs in the fact that it makes the followers to achieve high goals, rather than simply bossing the people around.

When a person is deciding to respect you as a leader, she or he does not think about your attributes, rather, they examine what you do so that they can know who you really are. They use this observation to tell if you are a respectable and trusted leader or a self-serving person who misuse the authority to seem to be good and get promoted. These leaders are not as effective as their employees only obey them, not follow them. They will succeed in many areas since they present a good image to their seniors at the expense of their workers.

The basis of good leadership is admirable character and selfless service to the organization. In your employees' eyes everything you do effects the organization's principles and their well-being. Respected leaders will concentrate on what they are (like beliefs and character), what they know (like job and human nature), and what they do (such as implementing, and providing direction). What makes an individual follow a leader? People need to be guided by those they respect and who have a plain sense of direction. To gain respect, they should be ethical. A sense of direction is attained by conveying a strong vision of the future. In a successful leadership situation, the leader is a communal architect whose style is analysis and design. Whereas in an ineffective situation, the leader is a petty dictator whose leadership style details.

Each organization has a particular job environment, which dictates to a significant degree how its leaders respond to troubles and opportunities. This is brought about by its legacy of past and its present leaders. Successful organizations have those who set high values and goals across the entire spectrum, like strategies, plans, meetings and presentations, market leadership, productivity, quality, and reliability.
