An Introduction To High Blood Pressure

By: Alistrol Healthy Home | Health-and-Fitness

Every person needs blood pressure to live. Without blood pressure the blood will not be able to be pumped in the arteries through heart beats. The blood pressure rises with every heart beat and comes down when heart relaxes in between the beats. But at times, the pressure of pumping the blood into the arteries becomes high than the normal one. The blood pressure consists of two values - systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. It is calculated in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

Systolic pressure shows the contraction of the heart muscle. It is the higher value in the blood pressure measurement. 120 or less mm Hg is the normal value in the systolic pressure but a slight increment in the systolic pressure up to 139 is considered to be the stage of pre-hypertension. The Diastolic pressure is the value observed when heart relaxes in between the beat. It is the lower value of the blood pressure. Its normal value is less than 80 mm Hg and a small increase up to 89 is the pre-hypertension stage in diastolic pressure.

The high blood pressure is the stage when any of the two systolic or diastolic pressures rises more than its normal values. High blood pressure is also divided in to two stages. In first stage the systolic pressure lies between 140 to 159 or diastolic pressure is found in between 90 to 99. It is the earlier stage of high blood pressure. In the second stage of high blood pressure, the systolic pressure is higher than 159 or 100 or higher in the diastolic pressure. The second stage considered to be the serious stage of the High blood pressure.

The high blood pressure is also referred as Hypertension in the medical term. It is also said to be the â€silent killer’ as it do not show any symptoms until an organ is in jeopardy. It increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, kidney damage and heart attack. Therefore, it is recommended to everyone to make a regular check of blood pressure whenever get the signs of headache, vomiting, fatigue, restlessness, shortness of breathe and blurred vision.

An untreated high blood pressure for long time can cause major damage to the vital organs of the body like brain, kidney, eyes and heart.
