An Introduction To Travel Management

By: Jack Walters Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Practically every company requires business travel, but it has to be very finely honed to ensure everything runs smoothly and doesn’t go over budget. For this reason, a growing number of companies are using travel management firms to plan their domestic and overseas business travel.
Unless they are involved with the industry themselves, most companies will find making travel arrangements a time consuming and costly business. Bosses don’t have time to shop around, looking for the best deals. Generally, they just give their PA a budget and tell them to get on with it. However, this isn’t good management. Whatever the journey involves, a CEO must approach business travel the same way they do their company accounts. This means outsourcing to professional travel management companies.
A business travel company takes all the stress out of booking tickets, arranging connections etc. What’s more, it can save you money. Travel companies have access to low-cost seats and last-minute deals not generally available to the public. This is especially useful to smaller companies, who can’t take advantage of the rates large corporations enjoy.
Travel management companies understand the need for flexibility, and can make appropriate changes to ticket bookings to accommodate unexpected hiccups. So if a meeting runs late, or a delegate misses a connecting flight, it’s not all panic stations.
Similarly, if you have to make regular trips to the same destination, a business travel consultant can arrange regular re-bookings at advantageous rates, freeing up both your secretary and your budget. Simply put, outsourcing travel management is the equivalent of hiring another PA.
