Anaemia

Anaemia is a condition where the level of hemoglobin in the blood is below the normal range. Hemoglobin is the iron-containing molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body so, in anaemia, less oxygen is delivered to the tissues.

Anaemia is an abnormal reduction in the amount of the oxygen-carrying pigment hemoglobin in the red blood cells which are characterized by pallid skin, fatigue and breathlessness, and caused by blood loss, iron deficiency etc.

Types of anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia
Vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia
Folic Acid deficiency

causes of anaemia

There is not usually one cause of anaemia, however, the following are reasons why anaemia may develop:

* Heavy periods.
* Diet low in iron.
* Internal bleeding, for example if you have an ulcer or a tumour.
* Diet low in vitamin B12 or folic acid.
* Blood diseases such as leukaemia.
* Infections, such as malaria.

Symptoms of anaemia

The patient usually complains of weakness, fatigue, lack of energy and dizziness. Other symptoms include a haggard look, premature wrinkles, dull and tired looking eyes, poor memory, shortness of breath on exertion, headache, slow healing of wounds, and palpitations. The skin and mucous membranes look pale.

Herbal Medicines

Beetroot juice: Beetroot juice is helpful for anaemia treatment.

Black sesame seeds: Black sesame seeds are an extremely rich source of iron. Two tablespoons of soaked mixture of these seeds is beneficial.

Ayurvedic home remedies

Lettuce is another effective remedy for this ailment as it contains a considerable amount of iron. It can, therefore, be used as a good tonic food for anaemia. The iron in it is easily absorbed by the body.
You should eat food that contains vitamin B12, it help in preventing anaemia or curing anaemia. Vitamin is usually found in animal protein, especially in meats such as include kidney and liver. Other good sources of vitamin BI2 such as include dairy products.
Consume honey, as it acts as a rich source of iron, copper and manganese and also it aids in increasing the hemoglobin levels.

Other anaemia treatment

Cold water baths are recommended in anaemia. The patient should be given a cold bath carefully twice daily, the coldness of the water being increased gradually.

Diet

Go for a well-balanced diet rich in iron, sesame seeds, almonds, dairy products, animal protein, vegetables as beet, lettuce, spinach, soyabean, radish, carrots, tomatoes and fresh fruits as banana, black berries, strawberries, apple, amla, plum.
