By: Clint Jhonson Home | Reference-and-Education

No matter how important it is to include a learning management system in your company, the urgent need for it does not excuse you from the chore of finding out just how much of an effect architecture, integration and security will play on your learning management system. When you know these three extensively, you will be well on your way to full seamless productivity with your learning management system.

The reason why these three need to be emphasized is because when they are taken into consideration they will certainly improve the functioning of your entire software from all levels and using all controls. Let us now take a closer look at these things and see how they matter in a learning management system.

The architecture of your platform is a serious consideration. There are some characteristics of the LMS platform that must be present. For one thing, it should be very flexible. In this sense, flexibility is being able to create a look that is very unique and a rich feel for the entire e-Learning solution. Likewise, the present content must also be very dynamic and should offer easy customization options for the users. It should also be extensible. When we say extensible, you should be able to add newer functions and some features when they become present.

Additionally, the platform itself must be able to offer the integration of enterprise resource planning tools. This also includes a database mapping tool and automated update routines. Some guidelines must also be present in order to create the right kind of custom interfaces to the entire enterprise resource planning application. And of course, the whole thing must be highly scalable. Doing so would definitely add to the system without needing to compromise the performance. And also, you will not have to switch to an entire new system.

For a platform to achieve maximum effectiveness, it must be integrated along with the other existing applications as well as the data systems in the company. The unique business needs of the company may also require that these platforms will be customized in order to support the specific requirements and as such ought to be addressed before it becomes deployed. This integration will usually go through several levels of customization, changes in the application interface and also extracts of data feeds.

Its customization, in order to meet the specific client requirements, will need to focus on user interface. This platform used should provide allowances for its updates in order to improve its look as well as feel. This is done by adding the company logo and working to develop a branded university.
In addition, the learners must also factor in the customization of the environment by way of book marking the courses and the references as well. Not to be left behind, adding custom fields should also be easy as this is the way for the platform to track the learner information as well as including them in the exports or the reports that are platform-generated.

And finally, reporting must also be taken into consideration. This is done by the administrators who are able to develop some custom reports, work to produce their output in different kinds of formats and eventually exporting their data into a variety of file types.
