Are You Still Using Dial Up Internet?

By: James Dyson Home | Internet-and-Business

Surfing over the web has become inevitable, may searching for related information, downloading a multimedia clip or shopping online. Moving around looking for your page to get loaded would sure consume you favorite time if you still hang over to a Dial-up connection. It is time to look for a broadband connection today where the broadband gap is narrowing between rural and urban world.

Traditionally, various data transfer services were carried via separate networks - voice on the telephone networks, data on local area networks or wide area networks, video teleconferencing on private corporate networks, and television on low power transmitters or cable networks.

These conventional networks were designed for one specific usage and are not suitable for other. For example, the conventional telephone network is inefficient for large data transfer. On the either side, networks which transfer data using computers have very limited connectivity, usually have inadequate bandwidth to transfer voice plus video, and end up with frequent disconnection.

Traditional Dial-up connection does not be always of good quality and data transfer rates are limited because of using normal telephone lines. The maximum data transfer rate using Dial-up connection stays approximately 56 Kbps, but technology such as ISDN provide speedier access. Irrespective of speed and quality connection, ISDN are more expensive because of their permanent lease nature to take on a connection.

DSL and Cable Internet are two widespread broadband connection technologies today for high- speed internet connection.

DSL uses existing 2-wire copper telephone line for its connection and there is no need for dial-in to your ISP and so DSL is called always-on connection. With DSL, you experience a more constant speed as the connection is meant only for you since it is not shared.

Internet connection using cable technology is based on shared bandwidth and uses the same coaxial cable used for cable TV and provides you much greater bandwidth. You can enjoy faster internet surfing by just using your existing cable connection for TV and that's how it saves your money in one way.

According to ITU, almost 62.9% of the United Kingdom population use internet and nearly 70% of total Internet connections are via broadband and this is much higher than of the United States. In the United Kingdom, other than fiber optics connection people have few preferable options like DSL and Cable Internet connection. Comparing the speed, DSL speeds of up to 24 mbps for downloads and 1.3 mbps for uploads and availability of extreme speeds are highly possible in specific places whereas, Cable Internet connections speed range from 2 mbps to 10 mbps for downloads and from 256 kbps to 384 kbps for uploads, which is marginally more popular than DSL. For greater ease, wireless broadband connects a wire-free computer network using radio waves and usually such type of network work within the size of a compact hall.

May be for your business or for home use, wireless internet is crucial nowadays. Having one could very well help you to good extend, saving your valuable time and money. So when you are in idea of having a connection, choose the broadband instead.
