There are some questions that can seem to be just too embarrassing to ask. One of these is “How do I play bingo?” You don’t want to ask it because you think that everyone should just know how to play it. Here we will describe the rules. First you purchase a bingo card. In a live bingo hall this is a card on which are printed numbers. In online bingo this is of course an image on your display. Your Bingo card will have a different set of numbers from every other card in the game. There are many variants of this but one common version is 75 numbers Bingo. You will see that your card is divided into fifteen columns. The first column will contain five numbers that are random selections of all possible numbers in the set 1 to 15. The second column will contain five random numbers from the set 16 to 30, and so on with the last column containing 5 random numbers from the set 60 to 75. The game is controlled by a person called a caller who, unsurprisingly, calls out numbers that he selects at random from a set of all possible numbers between 1 and 75. If a number matches any number on your card you mark it. Typically people use a felt tip pen or a purposely designed pen which is known as a dauber. On your computer you use a mouse or the number gets marked automatically. To win a game the numbers called must conform to a specific pattern of numbers on your card. The pattern can vary between games but typically it can be any straight line, all four corners, or every number on your card. If you are the first person to achieve this pattern you call out “Bingo” and if no one else calls “Bingo” at the same time you are declared the winner. If you forget to call out you forfeit your chance as you cannot retrospectively claim a win if someone else has called “Bingo” following another number call. You can play many cards simultaneously. Online using an automatic marking system this is simple, but in a real life game you have to be quite skilled to handle more than one or two cards and keep up with the pace. That is it. You now know how to play Bingo without even having to ask.
