Aspirin: Aspirin belongs to a group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Aspirin works by relieving pain and reducing inflammation, high temperature and fever. It is effective for mild to moderate pain like headache, toothache and sore throat. Do not consume Aspirin if you have a stomach ulcer. There is a possible relation between aspirin and Reye's syndrome when given to children. This rare disease can affect the brain and liver, and also could be fatal. For this reason Aspirin should not be given to children unless exclusively indicated. Concurrent use of other NSAIDs or corticosteroids may increase the likelihood of gastric side effects. Aspirin use with anticoagulants can increase the risk of bleeding. The effect of phenytoin and valproate may be enhanced by Aspirin. Delayed elimination and increased toxicity of methotrexate can occur with concomitant use of Aspirin. It is used to relieve pain and redness in conditions such as osteoarthritis, arthritis, swollen joints, frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendinitis, lower back pain, sprains and strains. It can also be used in the treatment of other painful conditions such as toothache, pain after operations, period pain and headache.
