Atp Tennis †2010 Us Open Could Host A Nadal - Federer Final

By: Stephen Lars Home | Recreation-and-Sports

The number one and the number two seeds of the tournaments are guaranteed that they will not face each other in the US Open unless they make it to the final. And even though both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer hold one of the sweetest rivalries the sport has ever seen, they have yet to have a chance to go head to head at Flushing Meadows. And you can blame that on the Spaniard.
Federer has been absolutely outstanding in the US Open. The Federer-Express has arrived in time to six consecutive finals at the US Open, wininig each of those except for last year’s mishap when the Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro successfully put an end to the 5 year dominance in a very intense five-set match. This year, Del Potro will not be defending his title because of a series of injuries he suffered early in the season. It is somewhat of a shame, because it would had been interesting to add on a healthy Del Potro into the favorites’ mix bag.
Nadal, on the other hand has always had some trouble when playing in fast-courts. He is without a doubt the most dominant player in clay ever since Villa, and perhaps a few other names, still, the king of clay has proved almost invincible in the courts of Roland Garros in the French Open. But when it comes to Flushing Meadows, boy oh boy, things do get uphill for the Spaniard.
Nadal has only manged to complete two semifinals at the US Open, back in 2008 and 2009, but other then that, he has really struggled with this specific tournament. It is hard to predict what kind of run he might have this year. He has had a very successful year, and given Federer irregular performance (overall he has only won at the Australian Open and it was not until a couple weeks ago in Philly he showed us his best face again) things could bright up for Nadal.
If Rafa Nadal is able to win this US Open, he will join the list of the 6 elite players who have won all four grand slams at least once. Federer, on the other hand, could very well be on his way to his 17th Grand Slam title. The odds to win have not yet been published as of press time. We will keep an eye out and give you an update once they are published. There are, and this is unofficial, three names mingling in the top of the odds. Certainly Federer is expected to put on a fight, he has been the most dominant figure in New York and if things keep their momentum, he could return to the top of his game.
Nadal has won at both Roland Garros and at Wimbledon this year. Might he close the year with yet another Grand Slam, and his first at the US Open, could mean that this 2010 would be a year to remember.
Then there is Andy Murray. He defeated both Nadal and Federer on his way to taking on a very valuable win in Toronto. We must say that his win over Federer came under a bit irregular situations with the many-rain delays in the final game. He still defeated the two top ranked players in the world. And he could do it again.
