Back Acne Treatment Tips

By: Juliet Cohen Home | Health-and-Fitness | Acne

Back acne, sometimes called "bacne. The term bacne refers to acne that occurs on the back. Bacne occurs on the back in the form of blackheads, pimples and spots and these can reach the advanced stage in the form of cysts. It occurs to people between the ages of 10 and 40 years. Back acne can be very severe, often times more acute than on the face. The skin on your back is thicker than the skin on your face and laden with sebaceous glands that produce a lot of that pore clogging oil, sebum. It can be a severe form when the lesions are large and painful. Most of the times, back acne is a hereditary problem caused by hormones. Also, perspiration and tight-fitting clothing are two of the most common culprits, which explains why many physically active people are plagued by back acne.

Tight-fitting clothing such as spandex, traps perspiration against the skin, and it then mixes with surface oils. Back acne can be prevent or treated like other forms of acne or blackheads. Don't wear tight clothes. Try switching detergents to a more sensitive brand and washing your bed sheets more frequently. This may help reduce the irritations on your body and reduce your overall bacne. Wash the back with an anti-bacterial cleanser formulated for the face, such as Cetaphil. Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells that tend to build up on the back, buttocks and back of the arms. Accutane is used for very severe forms of acne. Use a sugar scrub (milder than salt scrubs) in the shower on a weekly basis. Wear loose, natural fiber clothing. Natural fibers, such as cotton, allow your skin to breathe.
