Barcode Scanners Working Procedure

We are now living in the world where technology has developed a lot. Particularly nowadays there is lot of changes that are being seen in shopping market particularly in retail outlets. When you see those days, people take lot of time for shopping and also people feel tired while shopping because they need to wait for a long period of time to get the receipt. Similarly the retail outlet owners also incurred some loss due to theft of products and also, due to the manual errors made by the sales persons, but now the condition has been totally changed. Everything has become modernized and the shopping has been made easy due to the introduction of Point of sales system software and hardware. Barcode scanners or barcode readers are generally used for reading printed barcodes and it is purely an electronic device.



Generally each barcode has some specific symbols and the barcode is differentiated by its height, width and bar spacing. Each strip has the Possibilities to represent number, character or alphanumeric character depending on which type of barcode symbology set is used. The barcode contains starting and ending bar and in addition it has the checksum bar. Its purpose is to ensure that after calculation, the barcode is correct and also, ensures the accuracy of the code. The barcode scanner has the photo sensors and its purpose is to read the barcodes and convert them into electrical pulses. The strip of the bar is equivalent to character and the barcode software can easily convert the electrical pulses into readable text so that it will be displayed on all-in-one touch monitor.



Based on the particular software’s, the barcode scanners can read different items such as check out books in libraries; build up points on store cards and register amount on gift cards. They are also used in toll ways to read vehicle identification numbers. As said above, the sensor is the main element in this POS hardware and once the sensor detects the items, the barcode scanners can accurately trace the information about the products and the traced information will be sent to the monitors that have been installed with POS software. This POS hardware has made the vendors work easier and also the customers don’t need to wait for a long time for product identification purpose.



These scanners are in the market since 1974 and as years passed, many changes have been implemented in this system and now it has different features and also it has become hand held and portable and the users can do their work easily without any stress. This device has provided convenience, speed and accuracy for many businesses and the use of electrical power is negligible and its features had made them perfect even for big objects. CCD based and laser based are the two types of POS scanners available and the CCD type is more common whereas the laser type can read any surface and even it can read products at greater distances.
