Barcoding And Warehouse Management For Dynamics Gp Notes

By: Alba Spectrum Home | Computers-and-Technology | Software

If your company deploys Microsoft Dynamics GP Great Plains as your Corporate ERP solution and you have sophisticated Supply Chain Management requirements, including barcode automation, consignment, integration with Retail and Point of Sale (POS, including Microsoft RMS), advanced picking and packing, shipping and receiving (including from internationally located facilities in China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Russia, Taiwan), items cycle count - we recommend you to consider Dynamics GP ISV partners extensions to automate required business processes. For the Dynamics GP customers in Illinois, California, Texas, Georgia we have solutions out of the box. We provide local service in Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta

1.Barcode Scanners for Microsoft Dynamics GP. Here you have several options. The simplest one is to have Dynamics GP user workstation to be installed on Laptop, Palmtop or another tiny local portable computer platform to be in synch with Barcode scanner (typically few meters or few dozens of meters). If you can do it your small computer could connect with Dynamics GP server via wireless network (which is in current days covering hundreds of meters) - barcode label capturing and entering could be done by opening the form, such as Inventory Transfer transaction, placing cursor on the item number field, reading it via barcode scanner, then tabbing through the fields on the item line (and entering required info, such as quantity). This method doesn't require barcoding software add-on for GP, however it requires warehouse worker to be trained

2.Batch mode barcode scanning. Here you scan multiple documents and lines and save them in your barcode scanner in the warehouse. Then you come to your Dynamics GP terminal and upload the batch (or transform scanned docs into GP transactions, typically also stored in the batch - but now in your ERP application). Batch mode is more straight forward and typically doesn't require complex training for barcode scanner operator, however it usually requires custom add-ons on Dynamics GP side. You can either deploy existing barcode scanning third party or Dynamics GP ISV supported module, or program your own custom module

3.Barcode integration programming tools. As barcoding batch mode upload to GP typically has to interact with existing Great Plains business logic - very popular tool is Microsoft Dexterity (Dex is in essence GP architecture with its own scripting language Sanscript and Integrated Developing Environment, and what is very important - Dexterity programmed add-on integrates seamlessly into Dynamics GP Security realm)

4.Dynamics GP Barcoding support in Chicagoland. In Chicago area you have a major cluster of distribution and light manufacturing businesses, typically mid-size and smaller, with challenging supply chain management, logistics and warehouse management needs. Chicago is Eldorado for Barcoding automation, Supply Chain Management, Transportation and Logistics, Consignment Warehousing
