Summer is the perfect season to relax on the shores of your favorite beach and to hike the picturesque trails of a beautiful mountain range. Unfortunately, though, most people only have a limited amount of time off during this glorious season and have to choose between vacationing on the beach and spending their getaway in the mountains. This can be a difficult decision, especially if you are going on vacation with your family and everyone has an opinion about what they think is the best destination. If you are the decision maker, though, you need to think this through from many different angles. First, you should of course take into consideration what the other members of your party want to do. If all of them want to go to the beach, then the decision is pretty clear. But you must also weigh the financial factors that will impact your capability to thoroughly enjoy the vacation. Think about the following while making your decision and you should be in the right direction toward choosing between the beauty of the beach and the tranquility of the mountains. • Budget. Before even searching for hotels, make sure that you know exactly how much you can spend on the trip. Getting together with all of the paying adults to set a budget, based on what each vacationer can afford, is crucial to finding a destination that everyone can enjoy. Luckily, the beach and the mountains both offer free activities, as you will not have to pay to lounge in the surf or hike the trails. However, you will have to pay for other activities, such as visiting caverns, panning for gold, walking a pier, or taking a surfing lesson. These are all important things to keep in mind. • Lodging. Because many people visit the beach during the summer, and fewer vacation in snowless ski towns, beachfront hotels may be a bit pricier than their mountain counterparts. Don't be fooled into thinking that a beach vacation will be more expensive, though, because you will be able to find some great deals on Oceanside hotels. Shopping around for the most affordable hotel is important, but don't forget to consider comfort. Mountain lodges may be pricier, but they often include a longer list of amenities. Weighing the options is important in deciding between these two fabulous destinations. • Transportation. If you live near the coast, then indulging in a beach vacation may be more practical because getting there will be cheaper. Transportation costs are some of the most expensive that you will incur, and putting everyone on a plane can add up quickly. Likewise, if you live within driving distance to the mountains you may opt to vacation there because you will have more money to spend on food, activities, and souvenirs. When thinking about where to go, though, don't let money rule the day. Of course inexpensive vacations are important to growing families and individuals that are on a budget, but you want your vacation to be worth the investment. By considering the wishes of all vacationers, the comfort level of the destination, and the cost you will be able to decide where to spend your time off. Besides, you can always go somewhere else next year!
