Beautify Your Smile With Crowns, Veneers and Bonding

Cosmetic dentistry is a popular and important part of the dental profession. Whether your teeth are discolored, cracked or not aligned properly, there is a procedure that can repair your dental problem and help you achieve a brilliant smile. Improving the appearance of your smile means more than just looking younger, however. Healthy teeth can also improve your self-esteem and overall health and wellbeing.

The following dental procedures are effective and popular ways for restoring your smile and achieving good dental health.

Crowns

Dental crowns, or caps, are frequently used to repair severely decayed or damaged teeth. Made of metal, ceramic or porcelain fused with metal, crowns are placed on the top of the tooth, providing strength to a tooth that may have otherwise been removed. With proper care, a crown could last up eight years or longer.

Crowns are typically used following a root canal to restore a tooth's function and appearance. But they can also be used to attach bridges, cover implants, strengthen a cracked tooth or replace a loose or dislocated filling. During the procedure your dentist will reduce the size of the tooth to accommodate the crown and then make an impression of the effected tooth. A custom-designed crown is made in a lab, which is then cemented into place on your tooth.

Veneers

Veneers can be an excellent option for repairing badly damaged, stained or crooked teeth. Made of thin pieces of porcelain or plastic, veneers are cemented to the front of your teeth to change their color and shaping, producing dramatic results. Veneers are ideal for covering unsightly defects and discolored fillings, and they last longer than most other dental procedures, resulting in less frequent replacements.

Veneers typically require three visits and the treatment is usually painless. They're made in a dental lab, incorporating the desired changes in shape and color, and then permanently applied to your teeth. Your teeth will be highly resistant to permanent staining after the final application, and the results will be stunning.

Bonding

Dental bonding is typically performed for small restorations such as chipped or slightly decayed teeth. It is also commonly used to replace silver amalgam fillings. The procedure is painless and can be completed in one visit, depending on the severity of the tooth's damage.

The process involves applying an enamel-like material to the effected tooth's surface and then shaping, hardening and polishing the tooth to its ideal appearance. The bonding material is flexible and long lasting, meaning it expands and contracts with the tooth while preventing further problems from developing.

Veneers, bonding or crowns could be the answer for correcting your damaged smile. Healthy, beautiful teeth can have a significant impact on your self-esteem and health, an investment that's well worth it. Think you're ready for a new and improved smile? Visit your dentist to learn more about which treatment might be best for you.
