Best Essay Writing Technique

By: Bill Lasvel Home | Reference-and-Education | College

Writing your first essay can be a lot of fun! Writing is all about putting your thoughts together. Essay writing is probably the most common form of writing that every student faces during college or rather school life. Usually, there are four kinds of essays: The Expository essay, the descriptive essay, the narrative essay as well as the argumentative essay.

The first thing that you need to decide while writing the essay is the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the main idea. Basically it starts with a broader idea and narrows down to a smaller subject. The thesis statement usually incorporates the main idea of the essay. This statement tells the reader what the essay is going to be about. Usually the thesis is found in the first paragraph of the essay.

Next up, is the introduction. The introduction should be an attention grabber. What points you use to grab the attention, is up to you. The introductory paragraph should be an expansion of the thesis statement. The introduction usually follows the thesis statement and makes up the second paragraph of the essay. Here one usually includes the introductory elements of the essay.

The Body of the essay is the next one on the list. The body contains points that expand on the previous ones. The body will have different paragraph statements interconnected with each other. The body will also contain the argument along with the claims and evidence. Besides the argument, claims and evidence, body will also have things like the issue, as well as summarizing ideas. Added to the summarizing areas, the body will also include things like critiquing ideas as well as yet another paragraph that returns you back to the main issue. After the body comes the conclusion.

The concluding part of the essay is as important as the introduction and it’s body. The concluding part should summarize the main points of the essay. There should be at least three or four strong sentences in the conclusion. According to the experts, you should simply review the main points in conclusion. However, be careful not to restate the points again.

Anecdotes play a crucial part in essay writing. There should be an anecdote at the beginning of each essay. There should also be an anecdote at the end of the essay in the concluding part. Using the anecdote in a useful way can change the direction of the essay. Once you are done with writing the essay, i.e. writing the thesis, the introduction, the body as well as the conclusion of the essay, the most important part of essay writing starts. Editing is supposed to be a most important factor of essay writing. This is when you can make last minute changes to your essay i.e. take out the unnecessary points or add the most needed ones. Editing is a vital part of essay writing. Last but not the least, reviewing the entire thing is important. It is during this review that you will be able to understand what you have written. So, that’s how you write an essay.
