By: Max Broad Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Horse racing has been performed for many centuries and dates back to the Roman times with chariot racing. Horse racetracks were first built in the United States in 1863 in New York. Thoroughbred racing is one of the most popular types of in the world. Harness racing is another type and is more popular in Canada and Europe while quarter racing is most popular in Florida and western United States.

Countless hours by many people are spent betting on horses, handicapping the races and keeping records. Betting on horse racing makes watching the race itself more exciting. The betting methods and angles are always changing and no two races are ever similar. There are thousands of methods to use when betting on horse racing and each horse system approaches the racing in a different way.

If betting on horse racing is only for entertainment, it is best to keep the bet small; there is no need to bet bigger when horse races are so hard to predict. There are three different types of bets: to win, to place and to show. To win means betting on a horse to come in first. To show means to bet that a horse places first, second or third. To place means to bet that a horse places first or second. Betting on a horse to win is the riskiest, but often has the higher rewards. The larger the risk, the larger the reward, so the payoff will be more when betting on a horse to win or place rather than to show.

Going and watching horse races is exciting for everyone, but betting on horse racing brings more excitement. When betting on one of the bigger horse races, betting should be placed on a higher price horse than on a favorite horse. The odds of winning when betting on horse racing can be challenging, but if a risk is taken, wining can be sometimes be big. Knowing the odds of betting on horse racing will help to win.

While betting on horse racing, the key is past performances. They can tell everything that is needed to know about a horse and how it races. Past races will also show many important things about the horses that can give someone an edge against others who are betting on horse racing. The best choice for a horse is one that has recently run. Even if there is a horse with very good form, if it has not raced in some time, there is a chance it may not run very well during the race due to poor condition. It is important to remember that betting on horse racing is not â€sure thing’ even if it appears to be right.
