When the reign of Queen Elizabeth was coming to an end, there was an appeal for a new version of the Christian Bible. The main aim was to transcribe the original version of the Christian Bible into the English version. Historical Background of Bible King James However during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the proposal of the draft was not accepted. Queen Elizabeth was succeeded by James I. The King called for a court conference in January 1604. This conference was attended by the bishops and the clergymen. It was at this conference that the Puritan president of Corpus Christi College suggested that there might come about a new translation of the Bible. Here King James I voiced his opinion saying that he had not yet seen a Bible that was well translated in the English language. Accordingly a resolution was put forward in which King James I expressed the fact that there would be a translation of the Bible in the English form. The Bible would then be used by all the churches in England at the time of the Eucharistic service. Following this, King James I wrote a letter to Bishop Bancroft stating that forty seven Biblical scholars had been appointed for doing the translation of the Bible. These Biblical scholars were divided into six groups. At Westminster ten of these scholars were appointed to translate the Genesis. Seven of them were asked to translate the Romans. At Cambridge eight scholars were appointed to translate the Chronicles I and at Oxford a few Biblical scholars were asked to translate the Gospel, the Acts and the Revelation.
