Bingo is a game traditionally thought to be played by elderly women in retirement communities, but this assumption could not be further from the truth. In fact Bingo originated in Italy in the 1500’s and travelled through Europe and eventually to America. Actually Bingo or â€Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia†is still played every Saturday in Italy by many people. When Bingo hit the US in was originally called â€Beano†and was played at county fairs in the early 1900’s. The games popularity grew when it was used to raise money for churches. Today many people still play at churches for fundraising but, there is now a new online community of Bingo Gamers. During online Bingo games people can play for free, or for money and prizes. It is estimated that 90 million a year is spent in the US in Bingo gaming. Some think that Bingo in church halls and retirement communities may become a thing of the past.
