Bingo is not just for the seniors amongst us. Although I did learn the game from my dear Granny. On Saturday night she'd head to the Bingo hall with me in toe. At first, I couldn't keep up her and the other blue hairs at her table. They'd be playing ten and twenty cards at a time. Me, with one lousy card, then, after a few weeks, two, would be amazed by the joyous "Bingo" I'd hear again and again. Where was my win? Where were my prizes? No matter, I was addicted. The rattle of the balls in the cage, the calling of the numbers and excitement as I scanned my cards, I was loving it all. And yes, eventually, I'd be playing many card Bingo just like my Granny and friends. Soon, I began to venture away from the familiar comfort of the town hall Bingo with the older set. Before long I was finding my way at Bingo tents at church festivals and carnivals. Coveralls, four corners, diagonal, were all part of my vocabulary. I also discovered that Bingo attracts people of all ages, both sexes and a variety of backgrounds. It's just people coming out for some clean fun. Recently I've discovered online versions of the game. The excitement has increased! There's nothing like the thrill of winning a Jackpot! I play in the comfort of my home and now meet people from all over the world. A Italian Bingo friend of mine told me the game has been popular for over 200 years. It began in Italian as a game with cards spread out in rows and columns. Wooden chips were put in a bag with numbers on them. Each person had one uniquely numbered card. The first to get a horizontal row covered was the winner. The game first spread to France, then all over the world. It is a game for everyone and all Nations.
