Blooms - Understanding Flower Arrangements For Your Wedding

By: Richard Adams Home | Reference-and-Education

Choosing flowers for your wedding may be one of the more difficult and laborious part of your wedding preparation and yet is vitally important if you want to make the most important day of your life absolutely perfect.

Dealing with florists, floral designers, flower markets, and the wedding venue is almost a full-time job. Fortunately though there are ways to simplify the process and give you a little more time to take care of other things.

The first thing to consider when choosing your flower arrangements is color. Before you choose the type of flower, choose the color. Almost any flower can be found or created in any color, so let the color be your guide and the flowers will follow.

Remember, as with anything in a wedding, you can never go wrong with white. After you have chosen your colors, choose your flowers. A good florist will point you in the right direction.

If the flowers you have chosen are beyond your budget, find a florist who can find alternative flowers for you. Remember, all flowers don't bloom year-round everywhere in the country.

Try and choose flowers in their natural colors that are in season at the time of your wedding. You may be choosing your flowers in January, but if they aren't available for your wedding in August, you'll be out of luck. Make sure your florist is aware of the date of your wedding. You don't have to go a florist to get all of this done. You can find independent floral designers in almost any town.

You can also talk to your reception or wedding venue and see who they regularly work with. Often, local community colleges will have agriculture and/or hospitality departments who might be able to provide you with students who could help you choose and assemble your floral designs if you choose to do it yourself.

As you are no doubt aware, flowers can be one of the most expensive parts of a wedding, and we all know they don't last. If you are committed to meeting a budget, flowers are one of the easiest ways to cut costs.

By visiting the local farmer's market and planning ahead, you can save a lot of money by providing your own flowers. Of course, you'll need help (as you'll be pretty busy on your wedding day), but the savings are substantial.
