Breast Augmentation Surgery †A Guide

By: Ashlyn Baul Home | Women's-Interests

Breast augmentation surgery enhances the shape and size of a woman's breasts, using breast implants. Women choose to have breast augmentation surgery to enhance the contours of their body, to correct loss of breast volume following pregnancy, to make their breasts symmetrical, and for other reasons. With breast augmentation surgery, a woman's bust line can be increased by one or more cup sizes.

The causal relationship of this finding has been speculative and is thought to be related to nerve traction injury and decreased innervation density in patients with gigantomastia. Although evidence is anecdotal, women with macromastia who present for reduction mammaplasty are primarily motivated by chronic symptoms of pain and discomfort, the inability to engage in vigorous physical activity, and intertriginous infections.

During the breast augmentation surgery, the surgeon will make an incision either next to the areola, in the inframammary crease, the transaxillary (armpit) crease, or in the navel for a TUBA (Trans Umbilical Breast Augmentation) procedure. You will work with the plastic surgeon to decide what incision is best for you prior to the breast augmentation surgery.

Breast augmentation is generally a women's issue. Breast augmentation thus helps in the process of improving the look of the women. Good looking and healthy breasts can be considered as a femininity symbol. Good looking breasts help in providing self-reliance and thereby often may be considered as a proper way of inviting attention of men. Thus based on these concepts women folk generally opt for breast augmentation for providing a perfect shape and size to the breasts.

Breast augmentation makes the breasts larger and fuller. The results may not look exactly like natural larger breasts. The breasts tend to be a bit rounder and less saggy than natural breasts of the same size. The cost of breast augmentation may vary depending on several factors. This may include the place where the surgery is performed, the fees of the plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist and what style and type of implants are used.

Many women have lost breast volume, fullness, and shape with pregnancy, breastfeeding and nursing. While happy with being blessed with childbirth, these women feel that in return they have lost their youthful appearing breasts. These fashion-conscious women of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Hollywood have sought breast augmentation as a means of regaining their proportional figure, so once again they can fit into form-fitting tops, bras, and other clothes.

Before you can continue with your plans for breast augmentation, expect to sign a consent form stating that you understand the procedure and the responsibilities of taking care of your breasts once the surgery is complete. In some cases, you may have to undergo a waiting period of a number of days or weeks between signing the paperwork and having your surgery.

Breast augmentation is primarily performed under a general anesthesia in a hospital setting, although some offer a 'twilight sedation' method involving the use of a local anesthesia and a sedative, so you remain awake throughout the procedure, but in a drowsy state with no feelings of pain or discomfort.
