Brett Favre finally made a decision about his NFL retirement. Favre called Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress on Tuesday to inform him he will be staying retired from the NFL and would not be playing for the NFC North champions. Were you ready to buy that purple No. 4 jersey? I know I was! Favre told ESPN "It was the hardest decision I've ever made" "I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, but most importantly, the fans." Linebacker for the Vikings Ben Leber said. "I thought it was just a contractual deal that was taking so long and I really expected him to be at camp. So I was really surprised."Now the Vikings have little time to get things together. Their future Hall of Fame quarterback bailed just two days before players start training camp. Brett Favre told Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress that he didn't think his body could withstand a 19th season in the NFL. This will be the second time Favre will be going into retirement. Brett Favre was release from the New York Jets, just like he asked for, and had surgery to fix a torn biceps in his throwing arm. But after about two months of throwing to kids at Oak Grove High School in Mississippi, and some interviews all signs pointed to him joining the Minnesota Vikings, Favre just doesn't have it in him. Brett released a statement saying" I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons. They were telling me, 'You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off.' But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name." Brett Favre set nearly every passing record in the NFL during his 16 seasons with the Viking"s rival Green Bay Packers. He passed on a chance to play with the defending NFC North champions. This is a team with a very strong defense and has the best running back in the NFL with Adrian Peterson. Bringing Favre to the team would have made the Vikings the team to beat in the NFC. Now they will have Tarvaris Jackson take over as quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson's agent said, "His client is eager to show the Vikings, and their fans, that they had the right man for the job all along". Jackson will be in his fourth season in the NFL. He ended last year with a poor performance in the playoffs with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home. Favre, over the past two seasons he has shown that he known for changing his mind, so it would not be a surprise to see him try to join the Minnesota Vikings later in the season. But for now, at least, the Vikings seem to want to put this behind them and move on.
